Dutch Oven Pulled Pork: The July 4th Camp Cook's Secret Weapon 🍖🔥

You don't need a smoker to make pulled pork that stops everyone in their tracks. 🍖🔥 A Dutch oven, a campfire, and a few hours is all it takes — and the result is the kind of thing people talk about long after the holiday weekend is over.

Here's how: season a 3-4 lb pork shoulder generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, brown sugar, and a pinch of cayenne. Sear it in your Dutch oven in a little oil over high heat — a couple minutes per side until it's deeply browned all over. Add half a cup of apple cider vinegar, half a cup of chicken broth, a sliced onion, and two tablespoons of your favorite BBQ sauce. Lid on, cook over low coals for 3.5 to 4 hours — a small ring underneath, a few coals on top — until the meat falls apart when you touch it with a fork.

Pull it apart with two forks right in the pot, stir everything together, and serve it on toasted buns with extra BBQ sauce and coleslaw if you've got it.

Cost for 8-10 people: about $15. The reaction when you pull that lid off and the whole campsite smells like a BBQ joint: priceless.
